How to Detect and Repair Disk Errors (XP)

Over time through prolonged use, all PCs need some fine-tuning to keep it healthy

and in peak condition. Your computer already comes equipped with

all the tools it needs to do this house cleaning.

To use the Error-checking tool:

Close all files and programs. Go to Start/ My Computer.

Right-click on the disk you want to check and select Properties from the list.

Click on the Tools tab and under Error-checking, click the Check Now button.

Under Check disk options, click the 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' check box.

Click the Start button.

Note: If a message pops up saying the volume is currently in use, you will

have the option to do the disk checking the next time you restart your computer.

If you choose to do this, then the next time you restart, disk checking

will begin and you will not be able to perform other tasks while it's running.
